In my first deployment, I saw two soldiers lose limbs during roadside bombings. The impact that prosthetics played on their lives was the reason that prompted my decision to join the field.
What was the reason you decided to retire from the military?
When I first joined the military I found it to be incredibly satisfying and rewarding. It’s hard to work at an office desk, but there are only a handful of professions that are completely engaged in your thinking however, you are not working behind the desk. The military field offers several of those positions but after a couple of years, especially when you are an officer, you are more an administrator. I was not a good fit for it any more.

The transition from the military to the medical profession. It was a challenge, but rewarding and now eight years later, I’m so happy I’ve made the change.
What is your goal in life?
In my previous practice, I worked for about 50 percent in pediatrics. It’s now 90%. I’m totally on it.
